4 months!

I can't believe it. Today Ethan is 4 months old! It is so crazy how time flies by. I kind of expected time to fly by when you have a baby but honestly I didn't think 3.5 months in the NICU would also fly by! Although these last 4 months haven't been "picture perfect" Ethan has been perfect to us all along. It is amazing how far he has come. What a fighter he is. All the things that he went through. We are so thankful that we have been blessed with him.

So we had another Dr's appointment today to get some more shots. Yeah, great way to celebrate huh! We have come to love Ethan's pediatrician and today we got to chat with his nurse and we love her too! Mark told her that he truly believes that you should have to get a license to be able to have children. Then he continued with... "and I am not sure we would pass!" Maybe he was thinking of last nights incident when he said this. So on Mark's days off we have decided we will share the night shifts. So last night Ethan woke up and I poked Mark and said "it's your turn." So he eventually got up and I was drifting in and out of sleep. Well then Ethan was crying again and Mark was crawling into bed. So I asked him if he fed Ethan. He looked at me and said "no, why does he need to be fed?" I said yes, did you change him? He said "no, does he need to be changed?" I said "well what were you doing?" He said "oh I got myself something to drink!" I started to chuckle. He couldn't figure it out. He didn't remember me poking him to get up to take care of Ethan! And remember the monitor that Ethan is on. Well it is really really loud. So loud it will wake the neighbors... but not Mark! There have been times that we switched sides of the bed in the middle of the night so he can be closer to Ethan when it's his turn. Well the alarm will go off and I will jump up in bed and have to shake Mark to get him to check on Ethan and turn off the alarm! It takes Mark awhile to get his body to really "work" after sleep. One of these mornings I am going to wake up with Ethan's diaper on his head or something!

Ethan has been a little extra cranky these last few days so we started thinking that maybe he is teething. Mark looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned it but once I looked it up on the internet it said that preemies may start to teeth as early as "term" babies at 4 months. The Dr. isn't convinced of it because Ethan is still fighting the acid reflux. He has also told us to start weening him off the caffein. Once he is off the caffein we can stop with the monitor! yeah!

And of course with hitting the 4 month mark comes a 4 month picture... ok well they are his "newborn" pictures in my mind since I haven't been able to do any of the fun pictures in the hospital... this is just one of them

About Me

This blog started as a hobby for many reasons. It later became a way to keep the family up to date on our micro preemie baby, Ethan. Now as Ethan is nearing the 8 year mark with a little sister of 5 years I am finding a new reason to document on this blog.

Last year we were told by the school that Ethan had cerebral palsy, a blindspot and dyslexia. That is what started it all. I started taking him to doctors to find out what was going on and why this hasn't been discovered before now. In April 2017 we were told that he has executive functioning disorder. What the heck is EFD I thought?!?! After the doctor explaining it to us he basically said that if we don't start making changes now he could fall into the ADHD or possibly the autism category. Ok... so now what? What can we do?!? Well this blog is my way of documenting it all not only for me but also to help others find their way thru similar situations.
