Step forward step backward

So this morning they decided to put Ethan on the low flow nasal canula. This is the machine that he can go home on! He has been doing great on it. They also decided to put his food in over 2 hours (decreased from 2 hours 15 min). Then this morning he starting dropping his numbers quite frequently and quite low. They decided to put him back to 2 hours and 15 mins for his feedings. Then they decided well maybe caffein is what he needs. So he is now back on caffein. He is off the medication to help with his jaundice though. A few nurses agree with me that the wedge in his crib is not helping him and is just a pain in the butt so it may be leaving his room soon.

I think I am going to try going home tomorrow to do some more therapy. I plan on seeing Ethan early morning til mid afternoon, picking up some plants and heading home. Mark is also wanting me to come home... not necessarily because he just can't stand to be away from me but he left some keys with me that he needs ;) I also just finished reading "The Pact." It was a really good read but I was a little disappointed with the ending. I had heard it had a really big twist at the end... it did kind of... but not BIG. Just thought I would throw that random thought out there! Oh and Mark, well he has been riding his bike to work these last few nights! How things worked out we ended up having both vehicles in G.F. but he is enjoying the workout just not so much the mosquito bites. I remember hearing that Montana didn't have mosquitos. Yeah right! It might have something to do with all the rain we have gotten... which I also thought Montana didn't get a lot of!

I had a little sad moment today too. Ethan's neighbor Ellie left the NICU to go home with her parents. Her mom has been great to talk to these last few weeks. I am glad they are home as a family now but I do miss having her around to chat with. I am told that one of these days it will be us going home... just not sure when!

  1. The mesquitos around here has always been this bad!! Lol. I don't have a warm day memory of MT without mesquitos! But the rain...I've never seen this much rain, which is making the mesquitos ten times worse than usual! You guys are getting closer and closer to coming home! Yay!! If u have time when ur home give me a call!

  2. The mosquito is the Montana State bird, not sure who gave you bad information and from what I have heard only the females bite. Low flo huh!? When we tell Eli, he won't be surprised because he knows Ethan is a rockstar! Sorry you had to see so many car seats and none of them were Ethan's, one day...one sweet day. Maybe see ya next week- if your lucky, or maybe unlucky since you wouldn't already be home. Let's hope we don't see you in the Nicu that we meet for food and some drinks. Deal? Miss you guys.

  3. OK so I have to chime in on the mosquito debate. You Montanas complaining of those little mosquitos have never lived in the WI or MN where there is actuall swarms the size of birds that can carry small children away. Ya the rain may be a factor in MT and WY and I have had some bites around water areas here, but at least you can sit outside at night and not in a screened in porch. But just to be on the safe side Leah I might look into a stoller with a netting...;-)

  5. Some things you just can't get away from.. rain, mosquitos, and snow in June! But other than all that, MT sounds nice... haha jk I am sure it is.
    Besides Mark can handle it!

YAY More Therapy! I think I am going to go to a session myself today, so I will think about you!

Ethan will be home soon. It will be unreal and wonderful all at the same time. Hang in there with the ups and downs. We are all praying for you guys everyday. Stay strong Ethan!

About Me

This blog started as a hobby for many reasons. It later became a way to keep the family up to date on our micro preemie baby, Ethan. Now as Ethan is nearing the 8 year mark with a little sister of 5 years I am finding a new reason to document on this blog.

Last year we were told by the school that Ethan had cerebral palsy, a blindspot and dyslexia. That is what started it all. I started taking him to doctors to find out what was going on and why this hasn't been discovered before now. In April 2017 we were told that he has executive functioning disorder. What the heck is EFD I thought?!?! After the doctor explaining it to us he basically said that if we don't start making changes now he could fall into the ADHD or possibly the autism category. Ok... so now what? What can we do?!? Well this blog is my way of documenting it all not only for me but also to help others find their way thru similar situations.
