Thursday/Friday

So Thursday the Dr. decided to order extensive tests because Ethan doesn't seem to want to pee on his own. They have him on blood pressure medication and every time they take him off he stops peeing after 24 hours. I talked to the nurses about the possible causes for it but nothing was for sure. His tests seemed normal. So of course I continued thinking about this as I tried to fall asleep. I started to think about his time in Seattle. It seemed like he was off this medication for a few days in Seattle because he can't be on the medication and get food and I remembered that he was eating for at least 2 days that he was in Seattle. So I called right away on Friday morning to talk to the nurse. She said it had been bothering her all night too so when she got to work on Friday she pulled out the Seattle reports right away. (See why I love this nurse... she was still thinking how she could help get Ethan better after she went home!) So she had reviewed the notes and Ethan hadn't been on the medication since his surgery. Ok, so now the question is how could they get him to pee for 4 days without the medication but Great Falls couldn't. What was different? So she said that she would be racking her brain with the Dr. and see what she could come up with.

Once I got to the hospital they decided to take him off the medication and up his fluids they were giving him. They were still giving him a low dose of fluids since they had to give him low doses when he had the PDA (the heart issue.) Now that the PDA is fixed they could increase the fluids. Hopefully this will help take care of it. He had his first real poop too... no more maconium yeah! His ventilator rate has been decreasing a lot so they are hoping to get him off of that soon too. They are also starting to feed him since he is off the medication now too!

Thursday night Mark's parents were supposed to fly in but the weather was really bad and the pilot ended up having to land the plane in Missoula for the night. The airline put them up in a nice hotel with breakfast and spending money at the airport though so at least they took care of them. They did fly in to Great Falls then on Friday morning. Once I picked them up of course I took them straight to the hospital to see their first grandson ;) It was so cute to watch them look at him.

  1. I am so glad he is doing so well! So you mentioned
"he pooped too" does that mean he had a really good pee?

About Me

This blog started as a hobby for many reasons. It later became a way to keep the family up to date on our micro preemie baby, Ethan. Now as Ethan is nearing the 8 year mark with a little sister of 5 years I am finding a new reason to document on this blog.

Last year we were told by the school that Ethan had cerebral palsy, a blindspot and dyslexia. That is what started it all. I started taking him to doctors to find out what was going on and why this hasn't been discovered before now. In April 2017 we were told that he has executive functioning disorder. What the heck is EFD I thought?!?! After the doctor explaining it to us he basically said that if we don't start making changes now he could fall into the ADHD or possibly the autism category. Ok... so now what? What can we do?!? Well this blog is my way of documenting it all not only for me but also to help others find their way thru similar situations.
