Morgan's birth story

Thankfully Morgan's birth story is not as crazy and eventful and Ethan's but every birth story is unique and interesting.

We were originally told that they would deliver Morgan via c-section at 39 weeks because of the type of c-section I had to have with Ethan.  When I was about 29 weeks they told me that they would actually be delivering at 37 weeks due to the fact that I was at risk of uterine rupture.  Well of course doing a little google search on uterine rupture got me all worried and that's all that I could think about for a few weeks.  Basically the type of incision they had to do on my uterus when Ethan was born was vertical and they do not heal as strong as a horizontal incision.  They had no choice but to do a vertical incision with Ethan because of his position when they went to deliver him and since he was so small you can't just yank him around like a full term baby.  So the best thing to do is to deliver at 37 weeks so that I wouldn't go into labor on my own and rupture my uterus.  If my uterus were to rupture both me and Morgan would be in great danger and they could lose both of us.

Soooo August 15th we had an amnio test done to make sure her lungs were fully developed and that she would be fine if they delivered her on the 16th.  We did the test at 2pm.  It hurt.  A lot.  Maybe I am a baby but man on man it was so uncomfortable and when we left I just started crying.  At first I didn't know why I was crying.  Then 2 minutes later I was bawling because I was just in so much pain.  I guess cramping afterwards is normal.  So then we had to wait for the results.  Since I wasn't feeling well and Ethan hadn't napped we checked into a hotel and took a nap.  They finally called at 4:30 and said that we would be having a baby in the morning!

Thursday we checked in at 6:00 am.  I was getting a little nervous.  I couldn't believe we had actually made it to this date.  No surprise delivery.  It was all as planned.  As I was waiting for everything to get prepped for delivery at 8am I was getting really uncomfortable and I was starting to have really bad pains.  I honestly thought it was gas.  Then I started thinking and asked them if it was contractions.  Sure enough they were.  And they got worse!  I kind of thought I was going to get out of the whole labor pains thing!  Luckily we got in for delivery around 8:30.  The anestesiologist was a little weird but super nice and intelligent.  He had picked the music.  A little Roy Robinson.  At first I thought "oh I need to ask him to change this music!"  Then I thought ahh no, it makes for a good story.  Then Mark was allowed in and he of course liked the music and said that he felt he should be riding a horse!

So Mark stood by head like a typical c-section.  Then the Dr. opened me up.  They started talking about what they saw and the Dr. asked Mark to come around and look at what he was looking at.  My uterus.  They could see Morgan's hair.  It was sooo close to tearing.  It was a miracle it was still together.  The nurse informed me that she has seen it 3 times in 11 years.  The nurse was also standing behind Mark ready to catch him incase he couldn't handle what he was looking at.  She didn't know him very well.  Of course the Dr. did.  Then they pulled her out.  They were able to hold her up so I could see her and.... she CRIED!  It was so crazy!  I couldn't stop crying happy tears!  It's like I had hoped for and it was actually happening!  Then I watched Mark to the side of me taking care of Morgan with the nurses.  Then he left with her.  That part I wasn't thrilled about.  I had to lay on the table for another 40 minutes.    We had decided months ago that I would get my tubes tied and then they also had to remove the cerclage.  They informed me that having my tubes tied was a really good decision especially after seeing my uterus the way that it was.  My body just couldn't handle another pregnancy.  The cerclage... well that ended up staying in as it was too hard to get out.  He was afraid it was going to do me more damage the more he worked at getting it out.  It doesn't cause any issues having it there.  So then I had to lay in recovery for an hour.  The nurse that was watching me during that hour sat there and told me how I have 2 miracle babies now and that I should feel very blessed and know that they both have a purpose in this world.  Had I not had the c-section scheduled for Thursday and started having contractions who knows what would have happened as I would have had 1.5 hour drive to the hospital and my uterus could have ruptured any minute.  So scary to think about but I am so thankful that Morgan is here and I am here to enjoy our now family of 4 ;)

Finally I got to go to my room where Mark, Morgan, Ethan and my mom were waiting for me.  It was all so amazing.  The nurse came in and helped Mark give Morgan her first bath.  My mom video taped it for me since I couldn't get up to see it.  Ethan was such an amazing little boy the whole time.  He really could not have been any better.  He loved Morgan.  He would pet her hair and give her kisses.  He watched some movies and played quietly in the room.

I was actually released to go home on Saturday.  The release papers stated that patients husband was to remove staples on Monday at home.  When the nurse was reading this to me she wasn't sure what to say.  The Dr. had never stated that before.  She was confused.  Well, Mark took mine out with Ethan but we were still in the hospital.  The Dr. knows us pretty good now and thought the incision looked really good and that Mark could handle it instead of making us stay another night or drive back to have them taken out.

They waited to give Morgan a bath until I was in the room.  Mark of course took pictures for me ;)

About Me

This blog started as a hobby for many reasons. It later became a way to keep the family up to date on our micro preemie baby, Ethan. Now as Ethan is nearing the 8 year mark with a little sister of 5 years I am finding a new reason to document on this blog.

Last year we were told by the school that Ethan had cerebral palsy, a blindspot and dyslexia. That is what started it all. I started taking him to doctors to find out what was going on and why this hasn't been discovered before now. In April 2017 we were told that he has executive functioning disorder. What the heck is EFD I thought?!?! After the doctor explaining it to us he basically said that if we don't start making changes now he could fall into the ADHD or possibly the autism category. Ok... so now what? What can we do?!? Well this blog is my way of documenting it all not only for me but also to help others find their way thru similar situations.
