Today, July 10th Ethan is 100 days old! It is also his due date! Yeah... It's a boy ;) I was dreading the 100 day mark for some reason. I was so focused on how many days that we have spent in the NICU until my sister in law Lori pointed out that we need to focus on the fact that we have had 100 days to spend with our precious little angel. She is exactly right. Sure it would have been ideal to have him in my belly these last 100 days but instead I got to spend those wonderful 100 days with our baby and watch him grow. He means the world to us and he is getting so big (as I am writing this he is starting to cry and I am hooked up to the pump but the nurse came in to help me ;) These last 100 days have been a roller coaster for sure. They told us it would be but I never imagined it would be like this.
So just a few days ago they took out the ventilator and put him back on the high flow nasal canula. Today, well today he has been off any form of oxygen since 10 this morning and has been doing great without it! Yeah! We have told the nurses and doctors that we really want to take things slow... no not because we don't want to go home (can you believe a nurse said to me "you want him to go home don't you?!?!?!") but because we don't want to have a major step back like we did last week. So taking him off the oxygen... yeah not exactly slow and small steps to us! I expressed our concerns with the nurse and she explained it a little to me. The amount of oxygen he was on was 2 liters at 21%. 21% is room air so he technically wasn't getting any oxygen he was just getting air pushed into his nose. So it was just a little pressure and now he doesn't have that. They also have talked about the nasal canula is actually an obstruction to his airway so it almost makes it harder for him to breath. So anyway, no oxygen assistance for now and praying it won't change again but he is on some medications that could be helping him breath better. They could wear off and cause him to need oxygen assistance again but the doctor doesn't think that will happen. We will see. The Dr. changes again tomorrow so who knows what will happen.
We did have one visitor today that remembered his 100th day b-day and brought us a little birthday cake. It was good cake and always good to see her... I think Ethan would agree ;)
There was a little excitement in the NICU today as well. So I was holding Ethan and all of a sudden I hear a guy yelling and the nurses talking to him. I couldn't understand anything that he was saying but then I heard a nurse outside our room get on the phone to call for security. A few minutes later she called again and said they needed to get here immediately! OMG... I sat froze in my chair wondering what was going to happen. Anyone see the season finale of Grey's Anatomy... yeah that is what I was thinking! Anyway I guess what happened was it was a drunk father that went to the OB floor to see his baby and since it wasn't up there the nurses brought him to the NICU and let him in even though the secretary here was making gestures to them to not let him in. He was not supposed to be in here and of course you are not allowed in the hospital drunk anyway. So 2 other fathers stepped out of their rooms ready to take action if needed and of course that just upset the guy. Security finally came and he was escorted out of here. No one got hurt and then all the nurses were chatting in the hallway with a little nervous laughter. Mark's response to this story... "so are you ready to start carrying a gun with you?"
Um... no but thanks for asking honey!

Here is Ethan after our celebration with champagne... oh I mean breast milk ;)

I just love this little outfit (It says Daddy's little and then it has a monkey on it... I know you can't see all of it) it was a gift from someone great reading this ;) ! I have to say I think gymboree has become my new favorite place for clothes... and you can find great sales there... anyone who knows me knows that I love a good sale!

This is Ethan's hang out place. Notice the giraffe in the corner... it plays sounds like water falls and a cool beat with a lion or something... he seems to like it along with the mobile from the hospital.

This was on Ethan's door this morning... so cute!

And of course the cake ;)
