Last night... first bottle!

So after I posted last nights blog post we went back to the hospital. We found out while we were gone for an hour that he dropped his heart rate drastically and that they had to bag him. I hate that! I am not sure why he has been dropping his heart rate so much again. I told them that while we were in G.F. they suctioned out his nose after an episode and found all sorts of boogers. So they did try that and he did fine for awhile after that. But he still has been dropping his heart rate sometimes.

Good news is he had his first bottle last night (Tuesday)! He has been getting food for a long time now but it is through a feeding tube. We were able to give him just a few cc's of food but it was to see how he would do with the idea of suck, swallow AND breath. He did pretty good with it and he loved it! I mean how could you not... to actually have something wet go down your throat for the very first time!

Throughout today he had a pretty good day though. Mark insisted on going to Cabella's since we are here. Of course after leaving his comment was "that was the smallest Cabella's I have seen yet." Well at least we filled his need for going ;) I talked to our NICU friends in Seattle and found out they will be staying there for awhile. Oh how I wish that wasn't the case for them. They have to stay because of Eli's eye test results. It's funny how we talk to each other and think oh the other person has it worse off and then the next week it's the opposite. Last week when I told her that we were probably going to Billings she told me that she is glad she is not us with having to go to Seattle twice and then off to Billings. Now I am thinking oh I am glad we are not in Seattle for awhile yet. No matter what though I pray for the both of us and that our E's get better soon so we can start our new "normal" life with our babies.

I am so glad he did well with his food. Now if we can just get that heart rate to stay up there. He gives Grandma a heart attack ever time he does that when I am in his room. The picture is adorable. I can't wait to see him again today. I will be there this afternoon.
    Love and miss you all.

  5. Wow a bottle!!! i bet that felt good to really feed him for the first time! Ethan is so amazing!!!! I am glad he is doing so well.
Keep working on that breathing and heart rate thing kid, you'll get it down.

I pray for the family in Seattle too. However I also thank God that you have someone who you can go through this with. I know how important it is to have someone who knows how you feel!

About Me

This blog started as a hobby for many reasons. It later became a way to keep the family up to date on our micro preemie baby, Ethan. Now as Ethan is nearing the 8 year mark with a little sister of 5 years I am finding a new reason to document on this blog.

Last year we were told by the school that Ethan had cerebral palsy, a blindspot and dyslexia. That is what started it all. I started taking him to doctors to find out what was going on and why this hasn't been discovered before now. In April 2017 we were told that he has executive functioning disorder. What the heck is EFD I thought?!?! After the doctor explaining it to us he basically said that if we don't start making changes now he could fall into the ADHD or possibly the autism category. Ok... so now what? What can we do?!? Well this blog is my way of documenting it all not only for me but also to help others find their way thru similar situations.
