The nurse called Mark earlier today and said that they had done another echo test and found that the hole in Ethan's heart had gotten bigger. The doctor on today said that they will wait 3-5 days to see how it goes and then look at sending him to Seattle for heart surgery. Once we got to the hospital the nurse said that there is a different doctor on tomorrow morning and that she will re-evaluate Ethan's test and may decide to send him... TOMORROW! Ugh... are you kidding me! Then we found out that only one of us can fly with him AND allowed only 1 bag under 25 pounds! What?!?!? My bag with my camera and laptop weigh that... ok probably 15 pounds or so but really?!?!?!? So we have decided that it will be me flying with him. Mark will have to see what he can do at work and then we have to worry about the dogs. A flight for Mark looks like it would be $600! It's a 10 hour drive so he may be doing that. I really really don't like the idea of our little boy having to go through surgery! It makes me so sad. They say that it is routine and that Seattle does a great job at it but really.... that doesn't change the fact that you are flying my 2 week old little boy to Washington and then cutting him open AND messing with his tiny tiny little heart! UGH! Seriously... how much do I really have to deal with! This is so hard! I do hope that if he has to have the surgery that it we will start to see improvements. It just seems like at first we saw so many improvements and then just step backwards and now we have been at a stand still for awhile. I NEED to see some improvements... it would really help me! So now I pack my bags tonight and wait to see what they say tomorrow. Wow... I never thought I would be in any of these situations that I have been faced with these last few weeks! Life is so tough!
This is another picture a nurse took... they have been taking pictures when I am not at the hospital and they put them on a cd for me ;)
Hi Leah, Mark, and Ethan,
ReplyDeleteI know that there are 15 million thought gonig through your heads and hearts right now, but you have to rememeber that God has you in His hands. He is holding you. So, no matter what happens He is the guide hand. Believe this.
Somehow this seams to be a Sloan trate, hearts that have holes that don't close off. My brothers Roger & Steve both had heart surgery, Karen & I have holes, but they never got worse, so we didn't have the surgery, I have one aunt and one uncle that had the surgery, and lots of cousins, nieces, and nephues, so I think that this proves he is a Sloan :) We will continue praying for all of you and keep us posted.
WOW That came fast!!!! Well I talked to Matt and neither of us like the idea of you having to be there by yourself, so Please let us know what is going on and Matt said he would drive down and be with you for a while! And then I asked him to take care of you guys while your there etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteSo please let us know.
I really hope mark can make it out there as well... let us know if we can help at all for anything!
I hope if he does have to have this surgery that he really starts making leaps afterward.
I am praying very hard for you guys.
I love you all... please let us know what is going on. Matt will be there all he can!
And what a peanut in that picture!!! he is sooooo cute!
Tom and I live about 6 miles away from both Harborview and Children's Hospitals (depending on where they might send him). We can be there within 1/2 hour (depending on Seattle traffic). Leah, you won't have to be alone. I've texted my cell phone number to both you and Mark if you need it.
ReplyDeleteWe've also got a guest room ready for anyone who might need it.
You are all in our prayers.

PS: We also have an extra camera, laptop and car if you need it.
ReplyDeleteWe are praying for all of you too! He looks SOO much bigger and filled out in that picture...big three pound little boy! He is making strides, just not ones that you would like to see right now...remember to keep your head up and everything will move in the right direction soon! Let us know what we can do...could you fly the dogs here...they would love to play with Winnie! And you wouldn't have to worry about them for a while!? Keep it in mind! I know it would be hard to be away from them, but let us know...we are here for anything!
